Curriculum
Philosophy
ILM Academy’s Pre-K uses the Creative Curriculum, which is a widely used, research based method of instruction for young children. The teacher connects content, teaching, and learning for students through ‘developmentally appropriate’ practices, i.e. guiding children according to their learning and developmental abilities. In addition, the teacher integrates Islam into the curriculum, inculcating basic concepts, good character, values and principles.
Areas of Development
The following domains of learning are incorporated at ILM Academy:
Social and Emotional
This area is meant to groom the students into competent and confident Muslims that interact well with others. Children are taught Islamic values and behavior throughout the day in all subjects, with special emphasis placed during the Islamic Studies lesson.
Physical
This focuses on developing the child’s gross (large muscle) and fine (small muscle) motor skills. As children learn what their bodies can do, they gain self confidence and in turn, the more they can do, the more willing they are to try new and challenging tasks.
Cognitive
This relates to the mind and how it works. It includes what children think, how they perceive the world around them, and how they put theory into practice.
Language
This includes understanding and communicating through words that are spoken and written. The richer the child’s vocabulary, the more likely the child will become a good reader. Language and literacy skills go hand in hand. ILM Academy’s language goal is to prepare bilingual children with sufficient competence in both English and Arabic allowing them better access to literary texts, media, peoples and cultures of both languages.
These four categories are closely related and often overlap. Development in one area affects and is influenced by development in the rest of the areas.

The following table illustrates how ILM Academy’s Pre-K2 curriculum compares to the Georgia Pre-K standards. Learning objectives at ILM Academy not only meet Georgia Pre-K standards, but rather exceed them by far. More information about the Georgia Pre-K can be found here.
